HOME STUDIO RECORDING WORKSHOPS

AWESOME-A-FY YOUR RECORDINGS.

I've been an audio recording geek since 1987: From a 4 track tape recorder setup in my high school bedroom to a professional studio intern in college to a music professional riding the digital home recording studio evolution. I enjoy sharing my knowledge with you through a lively, down-to-earth, hands-on workshops:

You'll learn: Lots of "quick-and-easy" tips.

And how to: Fill in the gaps of your knowledge. Improve the sound of your songs and your experience recording. Mitigate technical details that can get in the way of creativity. Capture your best performance.

And about: Computer/software setup. Mic technique. Gain structure. Real use of EQ. Plugins. Virtual instruments. MIDI. Mixing as you go.

What you need to know about: Sample rate. Latency. Bit depth.

And... Anything else that is important to you.

COMMENTS FROM PREVIOUS WORKSHOPS

"I learned more in a four hour class with you, than a five day long recording workshop I took last year."

"I'm not super technical, and I appreciate the straight forward way you explain things that make a lot of sense to me."

"The four hour workshop length was just right: A lot of new stuff for me to go home and try out, but not too much information overload."

"I had a lot of fun."

"Thanks again for the class. I have a good direction in my mind now on the hardware and software as well as many great tips to keep it simple. Count me in on the next tier class."

THIS WORKSHOP IS FOR...

For any digital audio recording setup or DAW (Digital Audio Workstation):

Steinberg Cubase, Apple Garage Band & Logic Pro, Ableton Live, Avid Pro Tools, Calkwalk Sonar, Presonus Studio One, Cockos Reaper, Bitwig Studio, Image-Line FL Studio, Propellerhead Reason, MOTU Digital Performer,  and any other DAW.

Though I can help you answer questions about your specific software, we focus on the stuff that applies to any DAW.

Hands-on "lab" style: If you have a DAW (not required), bring it (laptop, software, audio interface, headphones & any other gear you'd like to use: certain mics, instruments, etc.). And bring you're musical abilities. I'll provide the rest: mics, monitors, pre-amps, cables, stands, demonstration DAW, instruments, and singing or playing any other instrument we need. We'll record and mix parts of some songs, and learn about all the stuff I mentioned along the way.

Flexible syllabus: So you can help guide what is taught, learn the things you'd like to learn, and learn from your fellow students. We'll also keep online group notes that we all will share in real time.

Small class size: Limited to 5 people, so there is lots of one on one attention. And plenty of room for your questions.

A couple more things: I do this class every month or two. So if this date doesn't work, let me know. And I'll add you to the list of future classes. Also this workshop is for more basic/intermediate recordists. I'll be offering advanced classes down the road. So get in touch, and I'll notify you.
